EET Hydrogen has marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of a greener future by commencing the Front End Engineering & Design (FEED) phase of its HPP2 production project.

With a staggering capacity of up to 1,000MW, this plant is poised to become the largest of its kind in the UK and one of the world’s largest. Its mission: to generate a remarkable 230,000 tonnes of low carbon hydrogen annually, catering to local industrial and power generation customers.

This groundbreaking endeavor follows the success of HPP1, a 350MW capacity plant that completed its FEED phase in September 2021. In March 2023, HPP1 earned the distinction of being selected by the UK government as one of the initial large low carbon hydrogen plants in the country. HPP2 now emerges as a catalyst for investment across the UK’s North-West region. It will spearhead the development of critical infrastructure for hydrogen transportation and storage while encouraging industrial and power generation customers to transition to this eco-friendly fuel source.

The significance of HPP2’s success extends far beyond its impressive size. It’s the driving force behind the creation of the first low carbon refining, glass, and chemicals manufacturing facilities globally. The plant’s proximity to HPP1 is no coincidence; it strategically leverages synergies to maximize efficiency and deliver exceptional value for investment.

EET Hydrogen’s HPP2 project represents a pivotal moment in the UK’s journey towards a sustainable, low carbon future. By fostering collaboration between industry leaders and emerging players, it not only paves the way for cleaner energy but also sparks innovation across sectors that have long grappled with carbon emissions.

As we look ahead, projects like HPP2 serve as beacons of hope in the fight against climate change. The commitment of these visionary leaders and their dedication to low carbon hydrogen are driving forces that will shape a greener, more sustainable world for generations to come.
