EGCO Group, a leading electricity generating company, and BIG, a subsidiary of Air Products Company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development and utilization of hydrogen for environmentally friendly electricity generation.

The partnership aims to support EGCO Group’s mission of achieving a low-carbon society and expanding clean energy business opportunities.

EGCO Group’s President, Thepparat Theppitak, expressed the company’s commitment to sustainability and outlined their goals of reducing carbon emissions intensity by 10% by 2030 and achieving Net Zero by 2050. To accomplish these targets, hydrogen will be promoted as a key fuel for power generation. Hydrogen is seen as a promising alternative energy source with the potential to facilitate the transition from fossil fuels to green energy. EGCO Group aims to encourage the use of clean fuels and support advancements in power generation technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The collaboration between EGCO Group, with its extensive experience in the power industry, and BIG, renowned for its expertise in industrial gas and the commercial hydrogen market, will enable both companies to achieve their shared goal of a low-carbon society. This partnership will add value and foster future cooperation in clean energy technology. EGCO Group plans to apply the results of the feasibility study to implement hydrogen fuel cell technology and integrate clean energy production within their power generation operations. The aim is to encourage the adoption of alternative fuels and advanced technologies, leading to a significant reduction in carbon emissions.

Mr. Piyabut Charuphen, Managing Director of BIG, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainable development in Thailand. As a leading innovator in industrial gas and emission reduction technologies, BIG is dedicated to addressing climate change through the production and use of low-carbon hydrogen. BIG’s parent company, Air Products, is a global leader in hydrogen innovation and the largest producer of low-carbon hydrogen worldwide. This collaboration will leverage the expertise of both organizations to drive the electricity and power industry towards a sustainable low-carbon society.

The joint efforts of EGCO Group and BIG signify a significant step in harnessing the potential of hydrogen as a clean energy source for electricity generation. By leveraging their respective strengths and expertise, the collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon hydrogen and contribute to the global efforts in combating climate change.
