The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing a €25 million loan to Resato Hydrogen Technology, a Dutch company that specializes in hydrogen refuelling stations.
This funding will advance Resato’s research and development, expand its production capabilities, and help establish 1,000 hydrogen refuelling stations across Europe by 2030.
Resato, based in Assen, Netherlands, is working in line with the European Union’s Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy aimed at promoting sustainable energy solutions. The investment will facilitate the company’s move to a new assembly facility in 2024, which will enhance their production capacity to meet growing hydrogen infrastructure demands.
Resato’s hydrogen refuelling technology is crucial for heavy-duty transport like buses and trucks, providing substantial emissions benefits. The company’s technology also addresses the obstacle of inadequate infrastructure for hydrogen vehicles, boosting consumer confidence in adopting hydrogen-powered transport. CEO Rob Castien expressed that the EIB funding supports Resato’s aim to lead hydrogen refuelling innovation, crucial for Europe’s energy transition.
Economic Boost in Northern Netherlands
Resato’s expansion is set to significantly benefit the economy and workforce in the northern Netherlands. The company plans to grow its workforce from 170 to between 500 and 1,000 employees by 2030, supporting local job creation across the supply chain. To meet the skilled workforce demand, Resato launched the H2 Academy in 2024, partnering with universities to train professionals for the hydrogen sector.
Resato is already a frontrunner in hydrogen technology, having established the first large-scale hydrogen refuelling station in The Hague in 2019. Since then, it has distributed over 55 hydrogen stations across Europe, serving cars, buses, trucks, and trains. The company also manufactures the market’s largest hydrogen refuelling station in Germany.
