INDUSTRIE DE NORA S.P.A. introduces a groundbreaking electrolyzer specifically designed for electrolyzing saline water. This invention seeks to optimize the process of electrolysis, producing valuable products like hydrogen and hypochlorite from saline water. Let’s explore the core components and significance of this novel electrolyzer design.

The Structure and Functionality

At the heart of the patented design is the electrolyzer housing, which stretches along a defined longitudinal direction. It incorporates several critical components including a feed fluid inlet and a product fluid outlet. The electrolyzer is equipped with two or more electrolytic cells that are integral to its functionality. These cells are fluidically connected between the feed inlet and the product outlet, setting the stage for efficient electrolysis of saline water.

Electrolytic Cells and Their Role

Each electrolytic cell within the housing comprises an anode and a cathode, essential for the electrolysis process. These cells are designed to facilitate the conversion of saline water into an electrolyzed fluid composed of hydrogen, hypochlorite, and the remaining saline water. The specific arrangement of these cells ensures optimized performance and efficiency in the electrolysis process.

Innovative Channel Design

The invention introduces an inner wall within the housing. This wall extends longitudinally, creating an inlet channel and an outlet channel linked to their respective fluid inlet and outlet. This design segregates the flow of incoming and outgoing fluids, allowing the electrolysis process to occur more effectively. Additionally, the housing includes a diverting channel at one end. This channel’s role is to efficiently divert the electrolyzed fluid from the inlet channel to the outlet channel, ensuring smooth fluid transition and minimizing energy loss.

Applications and Implications

While the patent does not overstate the significance of this electrolyzer, its implications for industries relying on saline water electrolysis are notable. The production of hydrogen and hypochlorite can be valuable across various sectors, from renewable energy generation to sanitation and water treatment. This technology offers a more efficient and potentially cost-effective method for achieving these goals.

Industry Potential

This patent reflects INDUSTRIE DE NORA S.P.A.’s commitment to innovation in electrolysis technology. As industries continue to seek sustainable and efficient methods of converting saline water, this invention holds great promise. The design’s emphasis on efficiency and seamless operation positions it as a valuable contribution to the field. While further developments and testing will shape its ultimate impact, this patented electrolyzer represents a significant step forward in the electrolytic treatment of saline water.
