Eletrobras, Latin America’s largest energy company, and Suzano, the world’s largest pulp producer, have announced a strategic partnership aimed at advancing sustainable solutions in the energy sector.
The collaboration will focus on evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of utilizing biogenic CO2, a byproduct of Suzano’s pulp production process, to produce green hydrogen and synthetic fuels.
The partnership between Eletrobras and Suzano aims to leverage biogenic CO2 emissions, derived from biomass burning and black liquor at Suzano’s mills, alongside renewable hydrogen produced through water electrolysis. The primary goal is to develop e-methanol and other clean fuels that can substitute traditional fossil fuels, particularly in sectors like maritime transportation.
The initiative underscores Brazil’s commitment to enhancing its competitiveness in the global bioeconomy and driving energy transition efforts.
Paulo Squariz, Energy Director at Suzano, emphasized the potential impact of the partnership on decarbonization and energy transition initiatives. Suzano, known for its leadership in green energy and bioproducts, sees this collaboration as pivotal in advancing Brazil’s role in sustainable energy solutions.
