Energy security, energy prices and the ability of the economy to respond to European decarbonisation are becoming issues that will determine the competitiveness of Bosnia and Herzegovina. For this reason, Sarajevo will host domestic, regional and European experts from 21 to 25 September at the Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week – SECW 2026, which focuses on concrete solutions for energy and industrial transformation.
At a time when European climate and energy policies are increasingly affecting the operations of companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, this year’s SECW will address financing of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, the development of green hydrogen, smart grids, digitalisation, innovation, electromobility, the circular economy, and energy justice. A special segment of the conference, “Emerik Blum Day”, will be dedicated to regional cooperation, diversification of energy supply sources, and energy security.
The international and professional dimension of SECW is confirmed by the participation of representatives of the World Energy Council, the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina and EU4Energy, CEF Ljubljana, the Energy Community Secretariat, the European Commission – DG CLIMA and DG ENER, Hydro-Québec Research Institute (IREQ) from Canada, Quanty Technology from the United States, the Milan Vidmar Electric Power Research Institute from Ljubljana, Steinbeis EU-VRi, UNEP, EIT RawMaterials, Xortimax from Slovenia, the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, ASPIRO, Raiffeisen BANK d.d. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Energoinvest, the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Montenegro, and the City of Vienna.
The programme also brings together key actors of the European energy market, including the NEMO Committee, BSP – Slovenian Energy Exchange, Nord Pool and the European Market Coupling (MCSC), as well as representatives of companies, academia and the research sector such as Porsche Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Zagreb, Asset Management International (AMI), Wien Energie GmbH, Hydrogen Association Spain, EUSAIR Pillar 2 – Connecting the Region – Energy, Nomisma Energia from Italy, South East Europe Consultants and DPM Metals.
An important part of the programme will be dedicated to international, regional and development organisations, including the World Bank, UNECE, Czech Geological Survey, RGGF Tuzla, the Secretariat of the Initiative for Coal Regions in Transition, People in Need (PIN), the Agency for Regional Development in the Moravian-Silesian Region, Caritas Switzerland, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the Organisation Méditerranéenne de l’Énergie et du Climat (OMEC Paris) and the Clean Air Task Force.
The domestic institutional and development dimension of SECW is further reinforced by the participation of the City of Sarajevo and the Sarajevo Regional Development Agency (SERDA), together with representatives of other ministries, cities, universities, institutes and companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week (SECW 2026) brings together decision-makers, businesses, academia, diplomatic missions, international organisations and financial institutions. With 23 planned panels, more than 200 panellists, keynote speakers and moderators, and a series of accompanying events over five days, SECW is today one of the largest regional gatherings dedicated to energy and climate,” said Prof. Mustafa Musić, Vice-Chair of the SECW 2026 Programme Committee.
A special value of this year’s SECW is the Ambassadors’ Panel, where ambassadors of Western countries will present the experiences of states that have achieved significant progress in the energy transition and will express support for Bosnia and Herzegovina on that path.
“The presence of institutions providing technical support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the energy transition process is also highly important, including the European Union through the EU4Energy project, UNDP and SIDA, as well as international financial institutions such as the EIB, the World Bank, KfW and the EBRD, which support the implementation of concrete green transition projects through grants and credit facilities,” Musić emphasised.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the five-day conference, Mirsad Jašarspahić, President of the Chamber of Economy of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, stated that SECW 2026 represents a key platform for connecting regulatory requirements, new technologies and investments, without which the survival of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s exporters on the European market would not be possible.
“Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week (SECW 2026) is a key event for the business community because it directly shapes the sustainable energy transition and the decarbonisation process. As a leading regional forum, recognised by the World Energy Council, by countries that are leaders in the energy transition while maintaining energy stability, and by the most important international institutions focused on energy and climate, SECW sets business standards, opens access to investments and connects domestic companies with global markets,” Jašarspahić stated.
He added that it is particularly important for companies that SECW goes beyond general policy discussions and creates space for concrete business talks on project financing, technological partnerships and the alignment of Bosnia and Herzegovina with European market rules – issues that will increasingly determine the competitiveness of domestic industry in the coming years.
SECW 2026 is held under the patronage of the Chairperson of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, JP Elektroprivreda BiH and JP “Elektroprivreda HZ HB” d.d. Mostar, with the support of numerous other institutions, media outlets and partners.
