ENERTIME, has unveiled its participation in the highly anticipated EPHYRA project, set to commence on June 1, 2023.

With funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe framework, the project is set to receive an impressive grant of approximately €17.76 million over the course of five years.

EPHYRA aims to showcase the integration of an innovative and unprecedented renewable hydrogen production facility on an industrial scale, utilizing an advanced electrolysis technology with a capacity of 30 MW. This large-scale electrolysis system will be seamlessly integrated into the operations of Motor Oil Hellas (MOH) Corinth Refinery, one of Europe’s leading refineries and the largest privately-owned industrial complex in Greece.

The key focus of the project is the development of industrially integrated renewable hydrogen production, which will be based on the principles of a circular economy and industrial symbiosis. By adopting this approach, EPHYRA aims to maximize resource efficiency, minimize waste, and create a sustainable and interconnected industrial ecosystem. The project is being coordinated by MOH, who will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation and integration of the renewable hydrogen production facility.

ENERTIME, within the framework of the project, will contribute its groundbreaking Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system. This innovative technology enables the recovery of low-temperature waste heat, generating 1 MW of carbon-free electricity to power the electrolysis process. For its remarkable contribution, ENERTIME will be granted €2 million, facilitating the realization of this cutting-edge system.

Gilles David, CEO of ENERTIME, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the European Union’s recognition of their consortium and the financial support received. He emphasized that this opportunity would enable them to develop an inventive solution for enhancing energy efficiency and generating CO2-free electricity for hydrogen production in refineries. David also highlighted the immense potential for energy efficiency improvements and CO2 emission reductions in the Oil & Gas industry, positioning it as a strategic development focus for Enertime. Furthermore, the partnership with Motor Oil Hellas, established in 2019, is now poised to enter a new and fruitful phase.
