Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, and Toufik Hakkar, CEO of Sonatrach, signed two agreements outlining upcoming cooperative projects on energy supply, energy transition, and decarbonization in Algiers.
Eni and Sonatrach will define energy efficiency programs, renewable energy developments, green hydrogen projects, and carbon dioxide capture and storage programs through these agreements in order to support both energy security and a sustainable energy transition. These programs will also identify opportunities for the reduction of greenhouse gas and methane gas emissions. The businesses will also carry out research to find potential solutions to increase Algeria’s ability to export energy to Europe.
Since 1981, Eni has operated in Algeria. Eni is the main foreign business in the nation, producing 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day on an equity basis.
