The Norwegian state enterprise Enova has awarded funding to TECO 2030 and infrastructure contractor Implenia Norway to jointly develop and pilot hydrogen-powered solutions that will eliminate emissions at construction sites.
Enova has agreed to provide NOK 15.6 million in funding, which will be spread out over 2.5 years, from September 2021 to December 2023.
TECO 2030 will develop a 0.8 MW fuel cell generator as part of the project, which will be able to replace diesel generators on construction sites. The fuel cell generator is expected to arrive in January 2023. TECO 2030 will benefit from Implenia Norway’s construction experience and knowledge, and the fuel cell generator will be tested on the company’s construction sites.
Hydrogen fuel cells, which convert hydrogen into electricity while emitting only water vapour and warm air, are the engines of the future.
Applications that currently use diesel engines or diesel generators can switch to hydrogen fuel cells and become completely emission-free by using climate-friendly hydrogen instead of fossil fuels. Furthermore, hydrogen fuel cells do not require a grid connection and are as mobile and adaptable as a traditional diesel generator.
