On June 30, Equinix will open a new data center on its Silicon Valley campus.
SV11’s first phase will include 61,000 square feet (5,667 square meters) of colocation space, which is enough for 1,450 cabinets. When completed, the facility will have a capacity of 2,950 cabinets.
The company also intends to expand its Bloom Energy fuel cell deployment, which currently has a capacity of 20MW for the entire campus.
The natural gas-powered cells will be used for primary generation, with backup sources including the utility electrical grid and generators, a first for Equinix.
The design power usage effectiveness of the $142 million SV11 data center is 1.17.
It has cross-connectivity to the other San Jose facilities because it is adjacent to SV1, SV5, and SV10. The company operates fourteen data centers throughout the Silicon Valley region.
