A European project endowed with 1.6 million euros will develop a “roadmap” from which a line of urban buses powered by hydrogen in the city of Huesca will be promoted.

This was announced yesterday by the Vice President and Minister of Industry, Competitiveness and Business Development and President of the Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon, Arturo Aliaga, during the conference “Actions around Hydrogen in Aragon”.

During this event, framed within the Interreg Europe Smart Hy Aware project, led by the Department of Industry, through the Aragonese Development Institute, Arturo Aliaga advanced this new European project focused on the capital of Huesca. During the conference, the “Regional Action Plan in Aragon” was presented, developed by the Smart Hy Aware project, focused on the Hydrogen Master Plan of Aragon and, specifically, in this pilot project related to the implementation of a fleet of urban buses powered by hydrogen in Huesca.

Specifically, the project, framed in the Interreg Europe Program, has a duration of four years, and has a total budget of 1.6 million euros, of which 1.4 are provided by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon offered during the conference an overview of the actions around hydrogen that are currently being developed in Aragon.

Aliaga bet on “taking advantage and putting into action the Aragonese companies that are working on hydrogen technologies and not losing the international perspective”. In this sense, he stated that “Aragon cannot lose the leadership of these technologies at international level”. In fact, he recalled that the general director of Industry and SMEs and vice president of the Hydrogen Foundation, Javier Navarro, has recently been appointed director of Hydrogen Europe, an institution designed to promote global carbon neutrality by promoting the European hydrogen industry.

The rest of the day included a round table on “Hydrogen & Sustainable Mobility”, moderated by Carmen Font, in which participated Aragonese companies linked to the hydrogen sector: ARPA EMC and Grupo Zoilo Ríos (SHiE), and the American companies Hyzon Motors and Raven SR.

It should be recalled that the Interreg Program, which has a co-financing of 85% of Feder, offers local and regional public authorities in Europe opportunities to share ideas and experiences of good practices in public policies.
