Romania is making significant strides towards a greener future as European Energy, a Danish company, plans to complete the world’s largest e-methanol and green hydrogen production facility in the country by 2023.

This groundbreaking project marks a crucial milestone in Romania’s transition towards renewable energies and its commitment to stimulating investments in green energy. With the recent approval of legislation on green fuels, Romania aims to intensify efforts in decarbonizing heavy industries and the transportation sector, paving the way for a sustainable market for green hydrogen and e-methanol.

European Energy’s ambitious project is set to transform Romania into a hub for renewable energy production. The company envisions the development of “energy islands” that efficiently produce green energy and cater to the specific needs of local communities. Recognizing the importance of cross-sector cooperation, European Energy supports international alliances promoting collaboration in the renewable energy sector, including the “Three Seas Hydrogen Council.”

Green hydrogen and e-methanol hold the potential to revolutionize sectors where decarbonization options are currently limited. Green e-methanol can serve as a raw material in the chemical industry and as a sustainable fuel in road and maritime transport, addressing environmental challenges in these domains. Moreover, European Energy’s commitment to decarbonizing heavy fuel and plastic industries is evident through supply agreements with major players like LEGO Group, Novo Nordisk A/S, and Maersk.

In a significant milestone for the aviation sector’s decarbonization, European Energy has partnered with Metafuels AG to develop and implement a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in Denmark. This collaboration seeks to use Metafuels’ proprietary process, aerobrew, to revolutionize the aviation industry’s environmental impact.

European Energy’s portfolio of green energy projects in Denmark, the USA, Brazil, and Australia demonstrates its commitment to driving sustainable energy solutions worldwide. By harnessing the power of wind and solar energy, the company aims to supply green hydrogen to the Esbjerg port in Denmark, while also heating thousands of households with excess heat from hydrogen production.

As the world witnesses an urgent need to combat climate change, Romania’s collaboration with European Energy presents a beacon of hope for a greener and more sustainable future. With strategic investments in infrastructure and a supportive regulatory framework, Romania can take a decisive step towards achieving its climate neutrality goals and creating a thriving green energy market.
