Faurecia is part of the IPCEI Hy2tech initiative focusing on advancing hydrogen tank technology. The project aims to create two new generations of hydrogen storage solutions: carbon fiber gaseous tanks and liquid hydrogen storage.
The research and development phase is centered in Bavans, France. Following this, the production phase will take place at Faurecia’s Allenjoie plant, noted for being the company’s first facility dedicated to hydrogen storage mass production.
A key objective of Faurecia’s project is to lower the costs associated with hydrogen storage for various applications, including mobility and distribution. They plan to begin installing a pilot production line for the second-generation gas hydrogen tank by mid-2026.
This effort is part of the larger French Recovery and Resilience Plan, specifically noted as reference C10.I2, indicating that France views this initiative as a vital component of their economic and technological growth strategy.
