Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. announces the signing of an agreement between its subsidiary NextChem and MYTILINEOS’ Renewable and Storage Development Business Unit (RSD BU) to undertake engineering activities for the installation of a green hydrogen plant in Italy via electrolysis.
NextChem is a subsidiary of Maire Tecnimont specializing on green chemistry and energy transition technology. MYTILINEOS, through subsidiary RSD BU, is a market leader in the development, construction, and operation of utility-scale solar and hybrid power projects, having a track record of more than 1 GW of medium to large-scale solar and battery storage projects globally.
Under the terms of the agreement, the RSD BU will leverage NextChem’s and Maire Tecnimont Group’s hydrogen technology know-how and technical experience to expand its hydrogen business.
The initiative, which will transform renewable energy from one of MYTILINEOS’ solar plants into green hydrogen, with additional plants to follow, intends to give local energy consumers with a carbon-neutral energy carrier alternative that could enable effective decarbonization, even in difficult-to-abate industrial sectors.

The plant’s capability for green hydrogen production is a high priority for both Italy and the European Union, as it will contribute to Europe’s carbon neutrality goals and speed the energy transition in civil and industrial sectors.
