In the production of hydrogen internal combustion engines, FEV is gaining ground.

Using our multi-cylinder research engine, FEV has gained extensive knowledge in the design of pressure-oscillation-free fuel-rails. Regardless of the injection mechanism – port fuel or direct hydrogen injection – this experience has already been successfully transferred to ongoing customer ventures.

Aside from hydrogen fuel delivery by rail, the admission of hydrogen by injectors, as well as the mixing phase with intake air, necessitate a thorough understanding of fluid dynamics and interactions.

The experimental results, combined with FEV’s well-established understanding of charge-motion generation, enable the company to optimize the interaction of fuel injection and charge-motion design to achieve the best possible mixture homogeneity.

The ignition system must meet stringent specifications due to the broad flammability limit and low ignition energy required. It’s crucial to keep any accidental discharge under control. Furthermore, high flame temperatures trigger electrode wear and focus attention on the best possible controllability of the ignition energy supplied.
