First Hydrogen, following successful trials of its hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) in the UK, has officially launched its North American program.
The company’s ambitious plans include the development of two additional demonstrator FCEVs tailored for fleet customers in the region, signaling a significant step toward sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.
First Hydrogen’s North American program aims to establish a robust hydrogen mobility infrastructure, mirroring its successful ventures in the UK. The company plans to construct a cutting-edge vehicle assembly facility in Quebec, boasting an annual production capacity of up to 25,000 vehicles. This facility will complement its previously announced 35MW green hydrogen production plant in Shawinigan, forming a comprehensive ecosystem for hydrogen-powered transportation.
Utilizing its Hydrogen-as-a-Service (HaaS) model, First Hydrogen intends to provide customers in the Montreal-Quebec City hub with hydrogen fuel and commercial vehicles. This model has proven successful in the UK trials, offering a seamless and efficient solution for fleet operators adopting hydrogen-powered vehicles. The integration of the HaaS model is expected to be a key driver for the widespread adoption of hydrogen mobility in North America.
The North American development program, led by Stéphane Gagon, a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience, underscores First Hydrogen’s commitment to transforming the region’s transportation sector. Gagon, formerly the program manager for the development of Airbus’s A220 for Bombardier Aéronautique, brings a wealth of expertise to the initiative, emphasizing the company’s dedication to ensuring the success of the program.
