A green hydrogen production plant (up to 237 MW) is currently being planned by Fisterra Energy, Enagás, and White Summit Capital.

This facility will deliver green hydrogen to large consumers of hydrogen and natural gas.

In keeping with the goals outlined in the Hydrogen Roadmap of the Ministry for the Eculatory Transition and the Demographic Challenge, this project will help to decarbonize industrial operations and power generation while promoting future uses of green hydrogen in mobility, including the use of public transportation, municipal services, and trains. Furthermore, green hydrogen could be utilized as one of the clean fuels in maritime transport, as demonstrated by the Port of Algeciras.

Andalusia can benefit from the renewable resources it has for producing green hydrogen, as well as decarbonizing areas where electrification is not an option. The Bay of Algeciras project will aid in the optimal integration of renewable energy resources throughout the region. This green hydrogen may be transported to national and worldwide users, using existing pipelines.

Using renewable resources for the production of green hydrogen will enable Andalusia to be a major hub for renewable energy production, resulting in social, environmental, and economic benefits for the area.

Facilitating the local industry to satisfy its environmental goals while also generating highly qualified direct and indirect employment is one of them.

This project will assist improve air quality in the Bay of Algeciras and southern Andalusia, and will establish the Port of Algeciras as a leader in the green hydrogen generation and supply sector.
