Danish renewable energy developer Floating Power Plant has secured a €26 million grant from the European Commission’s Innovation Fund for its Seaworthy project.

This ambitious initiative aims to integrate floating wind, wave energy, and hydrogen production, offering a multifaceted approach to dispatchable renewable power offshore.

The Seaworthy project, an acronym for Sustainable Dispatchable Energy Enabled by Wave-Wind Offshore platforms with Onboard Hydrogen, sets out to combine floating wind and wave resources. The primary goal is to generate electricity while harnessing excess power to produce and store hydrogen. This innovative approach is expected to mark a pivotal breakthrough in achieving dispatchable renewable power offshore, addressing the challenge of decarbonizing hard-to-abate areas.
