Westport and Johnson Matthey collaborate on hydrogen emissions aftertreatment

With the goal of reducing or eliminating emissions, Westport Fuel Systems is collaborating with the sustainability firm Johnson Matthey to create an emissions aftertreatment system specifically designed for Westport’s H2 HPDI hydrogen fuel system.

According to Westport’s release, the new collaboration focuses on merging Johnson Matthey’s technology and goods with its H2 HPDI fuel system to produce the least amount of vehicle exhaust emissions feasible.

In Vancouver, British Columbia, at Westport’s engineering facility, the two businesses will work together to test and create a prototype system.


European Energy acquires solar hydrogen project in Queensland

A 3,600MW solar hydrogen project in the port of Gladstone with a focus on so-called “power to X technology” has seen a majority stake purchase by Danish renewable energy developer European Energy.

The Pacific Solar Hydrogen Project seeks to produce more than 100,000 tonnes of environmentally friendly hydrogen annually as well as establish itself as a center for the creation of “e-fuels.”

A company called Austrom, which was headed by numerous CEOs with expertise in Australia’s renewable energy sector, originally revealed plans for the Pacific Solar hydrogen in 2020.

In order to build a significant new renewable hydrogen project, it claimed to have acquired land parcels close to Callide and Gladstone and not far from the coal generators that still run there. This project is one of many similar ones in the area, along with Andrew Forrest’s interests and Energy Estate.


Syntech Fuels to produce green hydrogen in Cape Verde

According to a memorandum of understanding inked with the government, the German company Syntech Fuels GmbH plans to create synthetic fuels and green hydrogen on the Cape Verdean islands of Santiago and Boa Vista using trash.

On the islands of Santiago and Boa Vista, the initiative calls for the construction of two scalable green hydrogen production plants with the ability to produce synthetic fuels as well as businesses related to those in organic farming, drinking water and irrigation, aquaculture, fertilizer production, and high-purity chemical products.


Third edition of the Atlas of Hydrogen Networks in Germany published

The Atlas of Hydrogen Networks in Germany (“Atlas der Wasserstoff-Netzwerke in Deutschland”), a publication created to assist interested parties in their search for potential partners, both locally and nationally, provides a general overview of all hydrogen networks in Germany.

Now in its third edition, the atlas has been updated to cover more networks.

Regions in Germany require more than one player for the creation and use of breakthrough technology. Regardless of whether hydrogen is used for transportation, energy, power, or heating systems, it is always supported by a local network of producers and consumers. Network formation is initiated at the regional level. They can advance more quickly in this way, and local stakeholders can increase the knowledge gained and the impact of their efforts.

Green hydrogen plant in Meirama becomes priority business

Alfonso Rueda, the president of the Xunta, declared the plant that Naturgy, Reganosa, and Repsol are planning in Meirama, which would produce hydrogen green, as a new priority business activity in the Community during the weekly meeting of the regional Executive.

The project data that has been made public so far indicates that this plant will initially have a capacity of 30 MW and might eventually reach 200 MW.

In its initial phase, the facility will produce more than 4,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually; the ultimate production target is 30,000 tons annually.
