RWE’s COO Hydrogen chosen as chair of Hydrogen Europe

Dr. Sopna Sury, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Hydrogen at RWE Generation, has been chosen as the organization’s new chair by Hydrogen Europe.

Sury, who assumed leadership on Wednesday (April 26) and has a term ending in June 2025, succeeds Jon André Lkke, who is stepping down as Nel’s former CEO and board member.

Hynion to build new hydrogen refuelling station in Jönköping

For a new hydrogen refueling station in Jönköping, Sweden, Hynion has received a land lease.

Hynion will attempt to build a new station in the logistics district of Torsvik, south of Jönköping, after entering into a lease agreement with the Jönköping Municipality. The deal also permits the construction of a hydrogen manufacturing facility.

The station, which will have a daily hydrogen refueling capacity of 1,500kg, will be able to accommodate both heavy-duty and passenger vehicles.

JR West to replace diesel trains with hydrogen ones

By the 2030s, JR West intends to introduce trains powered by hydrogen fuel cells that produce no emissions. Hydrogen-produced electricity will be used to power the trains.

In order to build an integrated hydrogen fueling station in Hyogo Prefecture that can deliver hydrogen to trains and other vehicles, the business also aims to work with municipal governments there.

By 2050, JR West wants to have net-zero CO2 emissions across the board. In an effort to accomplish this, it is supporting both approaches.

Currently, JR West operates about 450 diesel-powered train cars. The business wants to gradually switch over to fuel cell trains in place of them.

Hydrexia unveils first trailer for hydrogen storage and distribution

Chinese and global integrated hydrogen technology solution supplier Hydrexia has developed a creative approach. This is the first MH-100T trailer for storage and distribution of metal hydrides. The global market for hydrogen technology will benefit from this technological advancement.

The trailer is the first of its kind for the storage and delivery of MHx hydrogen and is both unique and pioneering. It stores hydrogen using a magnesium base as the material.

Air Products to build multi-modal hydrogen refueling station in Canada

In Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Air Products declared plans to construct a multi-modal hydrogen refueling station close to their brand-new net-zero hydrogen energy complex. The hydrogen refueling station will be the first of its kind for Air Products in Canada and the first of its kind on a commercial basis in Alberta.

The Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program of Natural Resources Canada has provided C$1 million in funding for the hydrogen refueling station.

The new station will have two hydrogen refueling lanes with dispensers for heavy-duty vehicles including commercial and municipal trucks, as well as Air Products’ own truck fleet, with filling times comparable to those of heavy-duty trucks that are powered by conventional gasoline. The station will also feature two spots for light-duty hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to refuel. The cutting-edge, high-capacity, high-efficiency station will be accessible to retail consumers and is slated to open in early 2025. The station will have a daily capacity of up to six tonnes of hydrogen using patented compression technology. It will be situated in Northeast Edmonton, next to the revolutionary new C$1.6 billion net-zero hydrogen energy complex from Air Products.

2G Energy gets hydrogen-powered CHP systems order from Japan

A further order for the delivery of a total of three hydrogen-powered CHP systems from Japan was received by 2G Energy AG, a producer of combined heat and power (CHP) systems.

The “Kashiwazaki Clean Hydrogen/Ammonia Project” by INPEX, the leading oil and gas exploration and production firm in Japan, will make use of 2G’s H2 power plants.

The three agenitor 412 H2 CHP systems are anticipated to be delivered by 2G in March 2024. By August 2025, the full project is expected to be finished.
