Burgum welcomes Heartland Hydrogen Hub selection
Governor Doug Burgum welcomed today’s news by the U.S. Department of Energy that it has chosen the Heartland Hydrogen Hub as the recipient of up to $925 million in financing to promote a regional renewable energy initiative involving cooperation between the states of North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, and Wisconsin.
In order to help the country achieve its demands for renewable energy, transportation, and agriculture, the governors of the four states signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in October 2022. The Heartland Hydrogen Hub will generate low-carbon hydrogen, decarbonize local supply networks, and generate new clean energy jobs throughout the states.
‘First’ hydrogen-powered bus deployed in Chile
The ‘first’ hydrogen-powered bus has been deployed by Andes Motor and Foton to start running in Chile.
The 120kW SinoHytec G120 hydrogen fuel cell on the interurban bus will be operated in conjunction with Buses Hualpén, Anglo American, Copec, and Linde.
When its hydrogen tanks and batteries are fully charged, the 47-passenger bus can drive up to 400 miles. It has safety measures like lane departure warning (LDWS), advanced emergency braking (AEBS), and stability control (ESC).
Mattiq introduces iridium replacements to make clean hydrogen generation cheaper
In an effort to reduce the cost of producing clean hydrogen, the clean chemistry startup Mattiq has announced their portfolio of innovative, highly resilient iridium substitutes.
Proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysers require the scarce and expensive element iridium to function, so Mattiq is looking for new substitutes that could offer comparable or better performance at a lower cost and with more availability.
The company thinks that by using alternatives to iridium, it may help accelerate the generation of hydrogen and, in particular, help the Regional Hydrogen Hub program in the US.
