Generate Capital, a prominent sustainable infrastructure investment company, has announced a significant investment in Ambient Fuels, a pioneering developer specializing in green hydrogen projects.
The partnership aims to support the decarbonization of heavy industries and transportation by funding up to $250 million for green hydrogen infrastructure. This funding will accelerate Ambient Fuels’ pipeline of projects, contributing to the global effort to combat climate change.
Ambient Fuels distinguishes itself by offering custom-engineered green hydrogen solutions, encompassing project development, design, financing, and construction of renewable hydrogen centers. Their technology-agnostic approach allows them to collaborate with any renewable energy source, facilitating large-scale decarbonization initiatives. With a team experienced in both conventional and renewable energy, as well as industrial and chemical processes, Ambient Fuels brings deep technical expertise to the table.
The partnership with Generate Capital provides Ambient Fuels with not only the necessary capital for business growth but also a trusted strategic partner committed to their long-term success. Jacob Susman, CEO of Ambient Fuels, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting how it empowers them to meet customer demands by delivering green hydrogen facilities vital for decarbonization efforts.
Generate Capital, renowned for de-risking, accelerating, and scaling sustainable infrastructure projects, believes the collaboration with Ambient Fuels will enable them to provide effective and cost-competitive solutions to traditionally emission-intensive sectors that have been challenging to decarbonize. Scott Jacobs, co-founder and CEO of Generate Capital, emphasized their commitment to working with Ambient Fuels to address the unique needs of customers seeking sustainable solutions.
The significance of green hydrogen in achieving a net-zero economy cannot be understated. Currently, global hydrogen production contributes 830 million tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to 2.5% of global emissions—comparable to the combined CO2 emissions of Indonesia and the United Kingdom. The United States alone accounts for 10% of these emissions. Green hydrogen offers a practical and cost-efficient pathway to decarbonize carbon-intensive heavy industries like ammonia production, oil refining, and heavy transportation, which require large amounts of energy but use relatively little electricity. By utilizing hydrogen produced from renewable electricity to replace grey hydrogen and produce e-fuels, these critical sectors can be effectively decarbonized.
Dave Kirkpatrick, co-founder and managing director of SJF Ventures, emphasized the success of Ambient Fuels in developing a strong pipeline of green hydrogen projects since their initial seed financing in 2021. The partnership with Generate Capital, known for scaling critical sustainable infrastructure, presents an opportunity to realize these projects and drive the transition to a greener future.
