Robert Habeck, the minister of economics, advocated for closer Franco-German cooperation the day after Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited Paris.
In response to the US subsidy package, both ministers once more urged for a “strong industrial policy response.” Habeck emphasized that the US statute to lower inflation is against the laws of competition. Therefore, a European platform for technologies of change was something that Germany and France sought to promote. The objective is to increase production capacity for heat pumps, photovoltaics, wind energy, and power networks.
President Emmanuel Macron also welcomed Habeck at the Elysée. After a period when relations between France and Germany were a little chilly, these meetings were viewed as a kind gesture.
