The German government has authorized a €15 million subsidy for chemicals company Linde in support of the HySHiFT renewable hydrogen project being pursued in Mpumalanga in conjunction with Sasol, Enertrag, and Hydregen Energy.
The award was announced during German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck’s recent trip to South Africa.
In order to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen and use the green hydrogen in Sasol’s current Fischer Tropsch facilities to create E-Kerosene, the HySHiFT partners want to construct a 200 MW electrolyser and 450 MW of renewable electricity.
A 40 MW electrolyser is planned for the project’s initial phase, which will be supported by BMWK finance.
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure published an updated list of Strategic Integrated Projects (SIPs) in the Government Gazette on December 6 in accordance with the Infrastructure Development Act, which includes the HySHiFT project as one of nine green-hydrogen projects that have been registered with Infrastructure South Africa.
