The German Ministry of Energy and Economic Affairs has issued a tender titled “Hochdruckkompressor für Wasserstoff” (High-Pressure Compressor for Hydrogen) on August 29, 2024. The deadline for submitting proposals is September 30, 2024.

The main objective of this tender is to procure advanced high-pressure compressors that will be used in hydrogen fueling stations and production facilities. These compressors are crucial for safely storing and transporting hydrogen, particularly in applications where high pressure is required. The ministry aims to enhance the efficiency and safety of hydrogen fuel systems, which are key components of the country’s transition to renewable energy sources.

In simple terms, the high-pressure compressors need to handle hydrogen safely and efficiently, ensuring that the gas is stored and transported at very high pressures. This is important because hydrogen needs to be stored at high pressure to be economically viable for industrial and commercial uses, including fuel cells and industrial applications.

Technical specifications for the tender include the ability to compress hydrogen gas to pressures of up to 700 bar. The compressors must meet rigorous safety standards, including leak prevention and pressure containment, and be capable of integrating with existing hydrogen infrastructure. In addition, the selected compressors should have low maintenance requirements and high energy efficiency, which are critical to reducing operational costs and environmental impact.
