According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Germany will construct new gas-fired power plants that will run on hydrogen as the largest economy in Europe tries to expand its environmentally friendly energy sources.
“We are not losing sight of the goal of decarbonization: in order to stabilise supply, we will build new gas-fired power plants which can be operated with hydrogen in the future,” Scholz said in a speech to the VKU local utilities association.
He stated in a prepared copy of the speech that the new facilities will have a capacity of 17 to 21 gigawatts, according to Reuters.
