The Government of Galicia has taken significant steps to expedite the processes surrounding a major green hydrogen plant project promoted by Acciona and Plugpower in the municipal area of Arteixo, A Coruña.
The Xunta has designated this initiative an autonomous strategic project, a status that aims to accelerate the development and approval of business ventures deemed particularly significant by the Galician government. The project was approved this Monday during a Consello de la Xunta session and declared a priority business initiative in December.
Details and Investment
The ‘Arteixo H2V’ plant, driven by Accionplub SL—a joint venture between Acciona and Plugpower—plans to invest 49.3 million euros in the Morás industrial estate. The project encompasses the development of six plots, each housing four 5MW electrolyzer modules.
Project promoters estimate the plant’s average productive capacity at 2,990 tons of green hydrogen annually and promise to create 25 direct jobs in the operational phase.
The Arteixo plant joins a list of strategic projects by the Xunta, including the Reganosa and EDP Renovables green hydrogen plant, Sentury tire factory, Ence’s recycled fiber factory in As Pontes, the Forestal del Atlántico green methanol plant in Mugardos, Altri’s factory in Palas de Rei, the renewable hydrogen plant by Naturgy, Repsol, and Reganosa in Cerceda, Stolt Sea Farm’s fish plant in Rianxo, and Cobre San Rafael’s mine in Touro-O Pino.
