A new technology production facility for the creation of green hydrogen will receive a 30 million euro investment from the Government of Navarra and Nordex. This project will create more than 150 direct jobs and deploy an overall investment of more than 70 million euros over the course of the next eight years.

This deal calls for the opening of a new Nordex facility in Barasoain, known as the Nordex Electrolyzer, where components known as electrolyzers for the production of green hydrogen will be developed, produced, and sold.

In order to launch the industrial deployment of the electrolysers and create a supply chain with local vendors, an engineering team of about 35 people will first design and test the electrolysers.

When the project is finished and operating at full capacity, it will employ more than 150 direct workers and have invested more than 70 million euros over the course of the next eight years.

The Department of Economic and Business Development of the Government of Navarra, Sodena, and Nordex made initial contact at the beginning of 2021, which led to the conception of establishing an electrolyser design and production facility in Navarra.

The Nordex Group, which has almost 9,600 employees globally, has been engaged in the development, production, project management, and technical support of onshore wind turbines for more than 37 years.

It brought in $5,400 million in 2021. Germany, Spain, Brazil, the United States, India, and Mexico all have production facilities for it. With turbines ranging from 2.4 to 6.X MW, the product portfolio focuses on onshore wind and is appropriate for both markets with limited space and those with constrained grid capacity.

A 100 percent owned subsidiary of Nordex SE is Nordex Electrolyzer. For the next three years, it will concentrate on creating a commercial electrolyser for the Barasoain plant’s production of green hydrogen using renewable energy. A 10 person engineering team was already employed by the organization before the end of 2022. Source: The Navarre government
