Fluor Corp. has been selected by H2 Green Steel to provide engineering, procurement, and construction management services for the world’s inaugural renewable hydrogen-based integrated ‘green steel’ mill in Boden, Sweden.

The ambitious project aims to establish a state-of-the-art steelmaking facility encompassing a melt shop, casting, rolling, and finishing facilities. By harnessing renewable hydrogen, the H2 Green Steel site endeavors to produce five million tonnes of steel annually by 2030, heralding a new era in sustainable steel production.

Central to the project’s mission is its commitment to reducing carbon emissions. With an anticipated reduction of up to 95% in CO2 emissions compared to traditional blast furnace technology, the H2 Green Steel mill represents a significant stride towards mitigating the environmental footprint of steel manufacturing.

Fluor’s involvement underscores its expertise in the steel industry and its dedication to pioneering novel, low-emission steelmaking technologies. The company’s extensive experience, coupled with its robust presence in Europe, positions it as a key partner in realizing the H2 Green Steel project’s objectives.
