The SoHyCal Project in California is a groundbreaking renewable hydrogen initiative powered entirely by renewable energy, according to Amanda Joshi.

The Combined Heat and Power Alliance recognized this project with their 2024 CHP Project of the Year Award. The award was given to H2B2 USA LLC, a hydrogen solutions company, and 2G Energy, Inc., a provider of combined heat and power generation systems.

The SoHyCal project illustrates a significant advancement in hydrogen production technologies. H2B2, the project manager, employs electrolysis powered completely by renewable energy sources to produce hydrogen. Essential to this process is 2G Energy’s biogas engine, which supplies the necessary power for hydrogen production. This collaboration highlights the synergy between H2B2 and 2G Energy’s technologies.

According to a joint press statement, the SoHyCal project not only fulfills the current demand for clean hydrogen but also lays the groundwork for future expansion. This expansion aims to further support California’s ambitious climate goals and serve as a model for similar global initiatives.
