Hexagon Purus is powering the journey once again. The leading hydrogen storage solutions provider has secured a fourth consecutive year of supplying its cutting-edge cylinders to New Flyer, a subsidiary of NFI Group. This collaboration fuels the deployment of New Flyer’s Xcelsior CHARGE FC™ hydrogen fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) across North America, offering a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to traditional diesel-powered public transit.
At the heart of this partnership lies Hexagon Purus’ Type 4 hydrogen storage cylinders. These lightweight, high-pressure vessels will empower New Flyer’s next-generation Xcelsior CHARGE FC™ buses to travel an impressive 370 miles on a single fill, significantly exceeding the range of many battery-electric buses. This extended range is crucial for ensuring seamless operation across diverse routes and reducing reliance on refueling infrastructure.
The contract between Hexagon Purus and New Flyer is valued at approximately $4 million, showcasing the growing momentum behind hydrogen FCEBs as a viable solution for decarbonizing public transportation. Deliveries of the hydrogen cylinders are anticipated throughout 2024, propelling the deployment of these clean buses across the US and Canada.
