The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) has awarded a grant to Hino USA, which will be used to promote new energy and environmental technology alongside Hino Motors.
Hino’s Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell trucks will be put to the test in California ports as a result of the grant. Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Toyota Tsusho America, Mitsui E&S Machinery and PACECO CORP, along with Hino, are involved in a joint study that will run through March 2026.
Zero-emission truck technology can help improve air quality at ports and in environmentally disadvantaged communities where California’s initiative is focused, and the NEDO grant supports this effort. As a result, new, zero-emission technologies can be encouraged and supported with the help of this money. Toyota, Hino, and Mitsui have chosen advanced hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks for this project.
Demonstrating zero-emission drayage operations in and around the ports, the team intends to use hydrogen power units. As part of a joint effort with Toyota, Hino will provide several of its prototype Class 8 Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV), which were recently revealed at the ACT Expo in August. In addition, Hino and its partners will monitor and analyze operational and maintenance interval data as part of the grant program to improve the efficiency and safety of the vehicles.
