Hitachi ABB Power Grids has made a modular mobile substation solution that vastly reduces the time to restore power in major disruptive events such as natural disasters.

This world-first 400 kV multi-voltage modular mobile substation system can be swiftly used and installed to recover power from 18 months–needed for the new build of a conventional substation–to only seven days.

This ‘plug and play’ solution is armed with high-voltage hybrid switchgear, protection and control solutions.

“Wherever you are in the world, access to an affordable, reliable and sustainable source of power is a basic prerequisite for human society and progress. Disruptions to energy provision can result in severe consequences, which is why we are continuously innovating technologies, such as this modular mobile substation disaster recovery solution, to enable customers to provide stable and competitive sources of power and further reduce carbon emissions.”

Niklas Persson, Managing Director of the Grid Integration Business Unit at Hitachi ABB Power Grids.

Solution design was made having in mind areas exposed to uncertain situations and natural catastrophes, such as storms, flooding and earthquakes. Thing that separates it from the competition is 24/7 readiness to switch between existing substation and it self.

Future design doesn’t stop there, customers’s specific needs are met by option to choose different voltage range and standards of the grid. Installation process is squeezed into hours, not days.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids designed the solution to face any limitations and hurdles and still delivers the results.
