Hive Energy is embarking on a project in Spain. Their Hive H2 Albamed venture aims to become Europe’s largest green hydrogen hub, harnessing the power of the sun and wind to produce clean fuel for the future.

The ambitious project envisions a total capacity of 9 GW of solar and wind power, coupled with 4 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030. This translates to over 1 million tons of green hydrogen and ammonia production annually, a significant contribution to Europe’s clean energy goals.

Hive Energy plans to achieve this ambitious goal in four distinct phases. The first phase, targeted for final approval by the end of 2025, will see the construction of a 1.1 GW photovoltaic plant, a 284 MW wind farm, and an 800 MW electrolysis facility. This initial stage is scheduled to be operational by the first half of 2028, laying a strong foundation for further expansion.

Spanish gas supplier Enagás has joined forces with Hive Energy and local authorities to support the project’s development. Their contribution includes infrastructure expertise and securing essential land resources. Additionally, Hive Energy has partnered with Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Uhde, leveraging their expertise in green hydrogen production technology.

The project’s impact extends beyond clean energy generation. It is expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and operation, boosting the local economy. Additionally, Hive H2 Albamed aligns with Spain’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
