Honeywell and ENEOS are collaborating to develop the world’s first commercial-scale Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) project.

The LOHC solution, pioneered by Honeywell, offers a cost-effective method for the long-distance transport of clean hydrogen, addressing a critical need in various industries transitioning to lower-carbon economies. By leveraging existing refining assets and infrastructure, this project promises to revolutionize hydrogen distribution, making it more accessible and viable on a global scale.

Central to the LOHC solution is the Honeywell Toluene Hydrogenation process, which chemically converts hydrogen gas into methylcyclohexane (MCH), a liquid carrier compatible with existing infrastructure. This MCH is then transported to ENEOS in Japan, where the hydrogen is recovered using the Honeywell MCH Dehydrogenation process, ready for use in various applications.
