Following a recent agreement between Hydrogen Utopia International (HUI) and Fishertown Property Holdings (FPH) for the lease of a 2.6 acre greenfield property, County Longford, Ireland may host a new waste plastic to hydrogen facility.

The “first” operational full-scale water plastic-to-hydrogen facility in Europe is expected to be housed at the site, which is part of the Logeco Logistics & Energy Park in Fishertown, Longford.

The location has a substation, its own electrical grid connection, and it has the ability to be used by HUI to utilize current wastewater treatment facilities. The HUI facility could be powered by a solar farm that FPH claims to have authorization to develop.

In order to ensure the long lease of the site, HUI and FPH have agreed to make an effort to complete a grant within the next three months. FPH has already received a payment of €50,000 from HUI.

HUI announced in July 2022 that it has signed a heads of terms (HoTs) for the collaborative development of a new site in Ireland with Powerhouse Energy Group.

Longford, a town in the Irish Midland, is expected to be among the top recipients of money from the EU Just Transition Fund in Ireland, which could amount up to €84.5 million by 2027.
