The Swiss Association of Waste-to-Energy Plant Operators (VBSA) and TES are collaborating to capture and ship CO2 from Switzerland abroad. TES is developing a business model to deliver large amounts of renewable and affordable eNG (green gas) by combining recycled CO2 with hydrogen to create a closed zero-emissions energy loop.

A cooperation between TES and the VBSA was established to decarbonize Switzerland’s waste-to-energy facilities, which produce about 4 million tons of CO2 annually. In order to transport CO2 from Wilhelmshaven, where the TES Green Energy Hub is located, to various industrial sites where it will be transported, sequestered, or used to create eNG, TES and OGE are working together to construct a 1,000-kilometer-long CO2 transport system in Germany. Basel and other important Swiss sites are connected to this infrastructure through pipes and trains.

The goal of the partnership is to determine how much CO2 has to be evacuated from Switzerland and over what time frame so that these amounts can be considered while sizing the German transportation system and any connected routes.

In Wilhelmshaven, TES’s green energy hub will serve as a spark for a circular economy with low carbon emissions. By being captured at the source and transferred to sites where it can either be sequestered or coupled with green hydrogen to form eNG, recycled CO2 will act as a transporter for green hydrogen, resulting in a closed, circular energy loop with no emissions. The Wilhelmshaven Green Energy Hub will serve as Europe’s main entry point for inexpensive, secure, and green energy.
