Hydrogen Aviation is launched in Scotland with the goal of becoming a prominent hydrogen aircraft firm as the momentum toward aviation decarbonisation continues to grow.

Founded by Dr. Naveed Akhtar, CEO of Hy-Hybrid Energy, the company will support all stages of aviation decarbonisation, from the airport perimeter to the runway, which includes the following:

  • Local Public Transportation and Infrastructure Equipment: Buses, Taxis, Trains, Shuttles, Refueling infrastructure, and Car Park Energy Management.
  • Power Generation Equipment: Emergency power generation, portable and mobile power generation, HVAC systems for terminal buildings, and microgrids.
  • Ground Support Equipment: Cargo loaders, electric ground support equipment, tow vehicles, de-icing equipment, tow bar tractors, mobile GPU, passenger steps, mobile air conditioning unit, forklifts, catering vehicles, refueling vehicles, and operations monitoring equipment.

The Company will use lessons learned from decarbonizing roads, rail, and industrial electricity to the aviation sector’s decarbonization development plan. Due to the fact that green hydrogen is now more expensive than jet fuel, this method will accelerate the process of aviation decarbonisation, since the sector will generate sufficient demand to drive down the cost of hydrogen.

The specific work tasks include the design of hydrogen fuel cell stacks and systems for aviation, concepts for onboard liquid hydrogen storage, thermal management, hydrogen supply chain and airport refueling infrastructure, and sustainable aviation fuels, standards, and certifications.

Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Founder of Hydrogen Aviation, states, “We can see that significant progress has been made, but there is still a long way to go—we are glad to contribute our efforts to fly longer for less.”

Dr. Akhtar founded the world’s first International Hydrogen Aviation Conference (IHAC) and has hands-on involvement with four key fuel cell technologies.
