Edwards Vacuum LLC has recently filed a patent that marks a significant advancement in hydrogen extraction technologies.

Their innovative Hydrogen Recovery System is designed to extract hydrogen from process gases, presenting a promising solution for industries aiming to recover this valuable gas from their production processes.

At the heart of this newly patented system is an electrochemical pump. This crucial component enables the extraction of hydrogen from process gases, which are commonly found as byproducts in various industrial activities. The pump consists of two primary compartments: the anodic compartment and the cathodic compartment. Each of these sections plays a distinct role in the hydrogen recovery process.

The anodic compartment is equipped with at least one anode and features an inlet to introduce process gases, facilitating their entry into the system. Once inside, the compartment processes these gases, removing waste and discharging it through an outlet specifically designed for this purpose. The sophisticated engineering within the anodic compartment ensures that the unwanted components of the process gases are efficiently separated.

The cathodic compartment, housing at least one cathode, is where the magic of hydrogen extraction occurs. As the process gases make their way through the system, the hydrogen molecules are effectively isolated and directed to the cathodic compartment outlet. This ensures the collection of pure hydrogen, ready for use in various applications.

A key feature of this Hydrogen Recovery System is its integrated controller, designed to manage the electric current supplied to the electrochemical pump. This aspect of the system is pivotal, as it ensures the optimal operation of the pump, maximizing hydrogen extraction while maintaining energy efficiency. Such control capabilities allow industries to seamlessly integrate the system into their existing processes without disrupting their production flows.
