Hyosung Co., Ltd. has forged a strategic partnership with Seoul Energy Corporation aimed at accelerating the development of hydrogen charging infrastructure in Seoul. The two entities signed a pivotal ‘Business Agreement for Hydrogen Charging Infrastructure and Clean Hydrogen Power Generation Cooperation’ at Hyosung’s Mapo headquarters on the 13th.

This memorandum of understanding (MOU) outlines a comprehensive plan for Hyosung and Seoul Energy Corporation to collaborate on several critical fronts. Their shared objectives include the establishment of hydrogen refueling stations to support the growing demand for hydrogen-powered mobility, the development of carbon-neutral clean hydrogen power generation initiatives, and the identification of urban renewable energy projects.

The primary motivation behind this partnership is to position ‘Seoul’ as a frontrunner in the realm of hydrogen mobility, anticipating the proliferation of hydrogen-fueled cars and commercial vehicles in the near future. Hyosung’s commitment to building a complete hydrogen value chain, spanning from green hydrogen production to hydrogen refueling stations, aligns seamlessly with Seoul’s vision for a sustainable and hydrogen-ready metropolis.

Lee Sang-woon, Vice Chairman of Hyosung, expressed the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Working with Seoul Energy Corporation on hydrogen refueling infrastructure and clean hydrogen power generation projects is of great importance in expanding the hydrogen market’s foundation.”

At the group level, Hyosung is vigorously advancing its hydrogen endeavors. These initiatives include an extensive focus on research and development to ensure the stability and reliability of hydrogen production and charging facilities, as well as the development of blue hydrogen and green hydrogen extraction technologies with minimal carbon dioxide emissions. Collaborating with Linde Corporation, a renowned industrial gas company, Hyosung is committed to establishing a comprehensive value chain encompassing liquid hydrogen production, transportation, and the installation and operation of charging facilities.

One of the major milestones on this journey is the construction of a 1,3000-tonne-per-annum liquefied hydrogen plant on the premises of Hyosung Chemical’s molten fuel plant. This ambitious project represents a significant step towards achieving sustainable hydrogen production and distribution at scale.
