Hyosung TNC declared that it was the first Korean business to create nylon for the lining of fuel tanks for hydrogen cars.

The fuel tank’s liner, which serves as its inner container, is a crucial element for storing hydrogen and preventing leaks.

The nylon liner material created by Hyosung TNC is 50% lighter than high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and 70% lighter than the current metal substance.

Compared to nylon liners, which have no danger of brittleness due to their low hydrogen absorption and air permeability, conventional metal liners are heavy and have a significant risk of brittleness when exposed to hydrogen for an extended length of time. A typical hydrogen-electric car requires 700 bar of pressure, which the HDPE liner cannot sustain. It is utilized as a high-pressure container with a 400-bar capacity. Hyosung TNC is significant because it created the groundwork for the first domestic business to join the foreign-dominated nylon liner industry.

Additionally, it intends to carry out commercial testing in conjunction with automakers and suppliers of hydrogen fuel tanks. “The development of nylon liner material by Hyosung TNC shows that even in the textile industry, which has been viewed as a declining industry, an innovation that transforms it into a core material for the high-tech hydrogen industry can occur if technology is equipped,” said Cho Hyun-Joon, Chairman of the Hyosung Group.
