A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power to work together on technology development and clean hydrogen generation both domestically and internationally.

Among these are the development of a seawater-based hydrogen production base at the electrolysis-based renewable energy research centre in Buan, North Jeolla Province, as well as cooperative involvement in a project in Chile to establish a basis for accessing the Latin American hydrogen market.

Additional initiatives include the development of carbon-neutral and clean hydrogen technologies as well as the generation and use of clean hydrogen based on biogas.

At the renewable energy research facility in Buan, Hyundai E&C is now constructing Korea’s largest commercial seawater-based clean hydrogen production base. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, the North Jeolla Province Government, and the Buan County Government are all involved in this. Over a tonne of hydrogen can be produced, stored, and transported daily at the facility.

As part of its global expansion strategy, Hyundai E&C also intends to produce clean hydrogen in Chile, a nation rich in renewable energy sources including solar and wind energy, where it will also establish a base from which to penetrate the Latin American hydrogen market.
