Hyundai Motor Group announced the appointment of a president-level person in charge and the implementation of an organizational system reorganization to expand the business organization in order to strengthen hydrogen fuel cell development capabilities and focus and efficiency resources.
President Park Jung-guk, deputy head of the R&D division, will be in charge of the newly created hydrogen fuel cell and will lead the development and business of hydrogen fuel cells as the highest commanding tower of fuel cell development as a result of this restructuring.
The R&D center intends to focus resources and organize support in order to enhance R&D capabilities for fuel cells.
The current fuel cell division will be split into development and business groups.
The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Development Center is dedicated to the growth of hydrogen fuel cell technology, as well as the improvement of the development system, cost reduction, and quality assurance.
The hydrogen fuel cell division intends to enhance the system for creating novel manufacturing technologies and ensuring quality, in addition to business strategy and operations.
Kim Se-hoon, vice president of the hydrogen fuel cell development center, will be in charge of the center’s development.
Lim Tae-won, managing director, is in charge of the hydrogen fuel cell division.
Lim Tae-won, a technical specialist in the field of materials and fuel cells who was recently named a full member of the Korean Academy of Engineering, has a strong network of academics and industry both at home and abroad, and successfully guided the development of the Tucson fuel cell car.
It also has management experience, having overseen Hyundai Motor Group’s hydrogen and energy operations, as well as the ESS (energy storage system) company.
The goal of the expansion and reorganization of Hyundai Motor Group’s organizational framework was to swiftly overcome hurdles such as technical issues revealed during a mid-term evaluation of research performance, as well as to re-establish the R&D timetable and direction.
Following the restructuring, the firm intends to push design reinforcement and the use of novel construction methods to increase the completeness of fuel cell research, as well as a new competitive commercialization strategy for the achievement of a hydrogen society.
On the other hand, on the 18th, Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Mobis convened a board meeting to discuss their fuel cell development accomplishments and future growth orientations.
