Hyzon Motors Europe, a joint venture between Hyzon and Holthausen Clean Technology Investment, has signed a vehicle supply agreement with Swedish transport company MaserFrakt.
The partnership is a significant step toward enabling emissions-free long-haul transportation in Sweden, as it is expected to bring the country’s first commercial hydrogen-powered heavy trucks. Hyzon will provide two HyMax-250 fuel cell electric trucks on a 6×4 vehicle chassis as part of the contract. An estimated range of 680 kilometers can be achieved by storing 98 kilograms of hydrogen on the 64-ton trucks.
MaserFrakt has already built a fleet of 1500 vehicles, half of which run on electricity rather than fossil fuels, and the Hyzon vehicles are expected to be the fleet’s first fuel cell electric vehicles. MaserFrakt is spearheading the transition to sustainable commercial transportation in Sweden. The company has already announced plans to support the development of hydrogen infrastructure through agreements with Svea Vind Offshore and NEL to supply hydrogen and to set up a hydrogen filling station.
Domestic transportation (excluding aviation) in Sweden has been mandated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70% by 2030. Hydrogen is a key enabler for zero-emission long-haul transportation in Sweden, according to the country’s government. The Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Klimatklivet and Naturvrdsverket) have given MaserFrakt support and funding for its hydrogen initiatives. When MaserFrakt joined the TRB Sverige network for sustainable fuels and heavy transportation, the company agreed to reduce its own emissions by 70 percent.
