Hyzon Motors and MiTAC-Synnex to help Taiwan decarbonize commercial trucking

Hyzon Motors Inc and the MiTAC-Synnex Group announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles and distribution models tailored to the Taiwan market.

According to the provisions of the non-binding agreement, Hyzon and HwaQi, a MiTAC-Synnex affiliate, will collaborate to develop a joint operating model focused on providing a product portfolio, service offerings, and logistics operations targeted to the Taiwan market’s demands. The companies expect to secure orders from municipalities and private businesses, with commercial shipments beginning in 2022.

Hyzon is also scheduled to contribute to MiTAC-decarbonization Synnex’s initiatives, beginning with the delivery of two fuel cell electric vehicles in 2022. Hyzon and MiTAC-Synnex envisage together developing significant business volumes for Hyzon FCEVs in Taiwan pending the successful deployment of these initial trucks and the establishment of relevant regulatory frameworks in Taiwan.

“Partnering with MiTAC-Synnex allows Hyzon to expand its crucial work of decarbonizing heavy transport into Taiwan,” said Craig Knight, Hyzon CEO and Co-Founder. “MiTAC-Synnex’s strong relationships, significant operating footprint, and insight into the market are invaluable as we seek to transition commercial trucking in Taiwan to Hyzon vehicles in the coming years.”

To speed the adoption of Hyzon vehicles in Taiwan, the firms are investigating the feasibility of developing hydrogen production and refueling infrastructure assets, as well as forming partnerships to supply green hydrogen to Hyzon fleets.

“Over the past 60 years, MiTAC-Synnex has established a track record of success, leading innovation in numerous growth industries. By collaborating with Hyzon, MiTAC-Synnex extends its commitment to reducing emissions and air pollution in Taiwan by addressing one of the biggest contributors,” said Matthew Miau, MiTAC-Synnex Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer. “Bringing Hyzon’s technology together with MiTAC-Synnex’s market experience creates unique access along each step of the hydrogen value chain.”

This announcement follows numerous others made by Hyzon recently on partnerships spanning large-scale green hydrogen production, distributed hydrogen hub models, and heavy-duty truck deployments in sectors of industry that account for a significant portion of world emissions. Fuel cell commercial mobility applications are predicted to accelerate fast around the globe, aided by growing tailwinds from pro-hydrogen decarbonization policy frameworks in the European Union, the United States, and elsewhere.
