Shinichi Hirano has been appointed Chief Engineer – Fuel Cell at Hyzon Motors, effective immediately.
Mr. Hirano has 30 years of experience in the field of automotive fuel cell technology. He brings decades of experience to Hyzon, including a recent 17-year leadership position at Ford Motor Company as the company’s principal research engineer and fuel cell technology specialist. Mr. Hirano also headed the Ford-Daimler fuel cell alliance and the USCAR Fuel Cell Teams in collaboration with the US Department of Energy during his time at Ford.
Prior to joining Ford in 2003, Mr. Hirano spent more than eight years at Mazda Motor Corporation, where he oversaw numerous hydrogen and fuel cell-related research ventures, including the launch of the Mazda Demio fuel cell vehicle.
Mr. Hirano has 25 US patents in the fields of automotive hydrogen fuel cells and batteries, as well as 15 articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
He studied electrical engineering at Tokyo University of Science and worked as a guest scientist at Texas A&M University’s Center for Electrochemical Systems and Hydrogen Research on fuel cell catalyst and MEA research.
