Hyzon Motors has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Shanghai Hydrogen HongYun Automotive Co., ltd to buy 500 hydrogen-powered electric trucks.
Hyzon, a prominent global supplier of zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell-powered commercial vehicles, expects to supply HongYun with 49-ton hydrogen-powered tractor trucks, subject to the execution of a definitive vehicle supply agreement. The first 100 vehicles will be ordered before the end of 2021 under the non-binding MoU, with the remaining 400 vehicles being ordered in 2022.
HongYun Automobile is a logistics company that specializes in hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles. Customers around the country, including one of the world’s top steelmakers, use the company’s operating, leasing, and maintenance services. HongYun will be in charge of the ensuing commercial arrangements with its final clients after Hyzon delivers the vehicles.
“Hydrogen fuel cell technology has been adopted more quickly in China than in the rest of the world,” said Hyzon CEO Craig Knight. “This allows Hyzon to begin the critical work of decarbonizing the environment, while building experience, capacity, and expertise which will be applied globally.”
