Île-de-France Mobilités stated on July 12, 2022 that it will initiate a procurement process to purchase around 50 standard hydrogen buses for €48 million beginning in 2024.

Until until, the energy transformation of the region’s bus networks was based on biomethane and electric technology. To accommodate clean buses, this is leading to the conversion of bus operating centers to these energies.

Additionally, IDFM continues to explore with new technologies, including hydrogen.

Île-de-France Mobilités is now cooperating with two additional projects, H2 Créteil and Vallée Sud Hydrogène, in addition to its involvement with Versailles.

The first, led by Sipperec and the Suez group, entails the building of an electrolyzer to make green hydrogen from the electricity generated by the combustion of municipal trash at the Créteil energy recovery plant.

This project, which is backed by the Agence de l’Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l’Energie (Ademe) and the Île-de-France Region, will rely heavily on IDFM’s acquisition of 17 hydrogen buses by 2024.

The second, led by EPT Vallée Sud Grand Paris in conjunction with the business Hynamics, intends to construct two sites for the production and distribution of green hydrogen.

Within this framework, thirty buses shall be deployed between 2024 and 2026 for this project.

To implement these projects, Île-de-France Mobilités will initiate a procurement procedure through the Public Transport Purchasing Office to acquire up to 47 standard hydrogen buses, as well as vehicle maintenance services.
