Indonesia is accelerating its energy transformation by cooperating with private sector companies to create the green hydrogen and green ammonia value chains, as well as carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS) technologies.

These measures are targeted at lowering coal use in power plants and preventing coal-fired power facilities from being shut down prematurely, First Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Pahala Nugraha Mansury said in a statement.

Indonesia is adamant about reducing carbon emissions by 29% by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2060.

However, the government cannot achieve the goal alone. Strong collaboration and synergy with the private sector are required.

As a result, on March 2, 2022, the deputy minister stated that he witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the state-owned fertilizer manufacturer PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), the state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero), and the Japanese trading company Mitsubishi Corporation.
