Europe’s first heavy-duty liquid hydrogen truck, the Mercedes-Benz GenH2, is under trial by Daimler Truck AG.

In collaboration with INEOS Inovyn, trials commence in mid-2024 for a year. Being the first of its kind in Europe, this hydrogen truck can haul up to 25 tons of product across a range exceeding 1000 km.

Wouter Bleukx of INEOS emphasized the firm’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions through the contribution of hydrogen fuel-cell trucks. INEOS Inovyn, one of the largest electrolysis technology operators, annually produces 60,000 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen. The firm’s strategic position as both a hydrogen producer and user significantly benefits Europe’s hydrogen transition. The truck trial further provides INEOS customers an opportunity to lower their carbon footprints.

Partnering with logistics company VERVAEKE, INEOS aims to evaluate fuel-cell technology effectiveness in daily operations. VERVAEKE’s CEO, Frédéric Derumeaux, concurs with INEOS on leveraging technological advancement for reducing ecological impacts. The liquid hydrogen truck’s real-life test conditions foster sustainability, he added.

The customer trial fleet of Mercedes-Benz GenH2 trucks marks a significant step towards the goal of decarbonizing transportation using hydrogen-powered trucks. INEOS Inovyn’s support of Daimler Truck AG’s initiative aligns with the growing demands and developments in the hydrogen market.
